Australia and New Zealand Celebrate 100 years of service
It’s a special time. Rotary in Australia and NZ celebrates the First 100 years of Service in 2021.
In 1921, four Rotary Clubs were created in Melbourne, Auckland, Wellington and Sydney. From there, Rotary and Rotaract clubs were created everywhere across Australia and NZ. We all share a centenary in 2021.  To celebrate this special occasion, we are committing our club and that of the more than 250,000 Peace Poles that stand in approximately 200 countries around the globe, symbolizing the common wish for a world at peace.
We are gathering on to reaffirm our commitment to Peace locally and globally and especially in our relationship with each other and in our community. The Peace Poles are marked with the message “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in at four languages, Mitchelton and surrounds pole will be written in English, Portuguese, Tagalog and in recognition of the Aboriginal land on which we will meet and place the peace pole Turrbal language. All poles standing in silent vigil for peace and acting as a reminder for all to think and act in the spirit of peace.
These words ‘May peace prevail on Earth’ were written by the Chinese philosopher Laozi over 2500 years ago.  Laozi teaches that we should live a simple life that is filled with goodness and integrity. Planting a Peace Pole is a way of bringing people together to inspire, awaken and uplift the human consciousness. Peace Poles remind us to think, speak and act in the spirit of peace and harmony.
